Fundamentals of Eco-Design

This training provides a practical introduction to eco-design, guiding participants through the key tools and stages involved in deploying an eco-design approach.

Learning objectives Programme Teaching Methods Who is this training for? Assessment methods
  • Gain familiarity with environmental assessment concepts and tools
  • Apply eco-design tools in practice (the 5 Rs framework, the Brezet wheel, and others)
  • Identify eco-design improvement pathways that address environmental priorities while accounting for systemic constraints
  • Model these pathways in an eco-design software platform (ASKOR)
  • Recognise common eco-design pitfalls — improvements that appear beneficial but generate unintended consequences
  • Draft an initial action plan based on the knowledge and tools acquired

Day 1 — Afternoon

  • Overview of environmental assessment tools (LCA, simplified LCA approaches, and others)
  • Introduction to eco-design tools — the 5 Rs, the Brezet wheel, Ecolizer, and others — with hands-on application
  • Presentation of LCA results for a sample product, generated using the ASKOR platform

Day 2 — Morning

  • Workshop: identifying eco-design improvement pathways for a product
  • Modelling these pathways in ASKOR

Day 2 — Afternoon

  • Interpreting results and prioritising improvement pathways
  • Identifying common eco-design pitfalls
  • Introduction to eco-design project management
  • Introduction to environmental communication
  • Translating the session's key concepts into a draft action plan

  • Exposés didactiques
  • Travaux en sous-groupes
  • Exercices pratiques à partir d’études de cas
  • Livret de formation

Any professional seeking to understand and apply eco-design principles — including CSR managers, product managers, marketing teams, packaging teams, and related roles.

Prerequisites

Prior participation in an eco-design awareness workshop — such as the Fresque de l'Éco-conception or any equivalent introductory session on the subject.

  • At the start and end of the training: knowledge validation test
  • During the training: ongoing assessment of learning progress through case studies, quizzes, practical exercises, and similar activities
  • Individual certificate of completion awarded upon conclusion of the training
