ASKOR and FESPA France: how EVEA supports the visual communication industry

10/23/2025

In 2025, EVEA made the democratisation of eco-design and sector-based approaches key cornerstones of its business strategy. This philosophy is already deeply rooted in its consultancy work, as shown by the project launched in 2023 with FESPA France.

A life cycle assessment tool for visual communication

FESPA France is the French federation representing visual communication professionals, bringing together nearly 500 businesses across the field. Recognising the growing importance of environmental issues, the federation, in partnership with EVEA, developed an online service for its members to measure their products’ environmental impact and integrate eco-design into their processes.

« At a time of environmental transition, and with the national goal of cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030, supporting professionals on their journey towards improved environmental performance is simply common sense,” explains Hugues Malhère, President of FESPA France. “This tool was designed specifically for professionals in the  visual communication industry, whether sign makers, signage installers, screen printers, digital printers or media applicators. »

This new service reflects FESPA France’s ambition to actively support its members in their eco-design journey, helping them meet the growing environmental expectations of the markets and clients alike. It enables them to position themselves as responsible actors while continuously improving their environmental performance.

Choosing the ASKOR solution and working with EVEA

To support its members' environmental transition, FESPA France chose to partner with EVEA to roll out the ASKOR platform across its network. This online tool performs life cycle assessments (LCA) in line with ISO 14040/44 and 14067 standards and the European PEF methodology, drawing on the robust Ecoinvent 3.11 database. Beyond calculation, ASKOR helps users compare product versions and identify design improvements through its Quick Comparator feature.

A bespoke ASKOR module for visual communication

To address the specific needs of the visual communication industry, EVEA developed a tailored module that includes customised  platform features and sector-specific datasets (materials, processes, etc.). The platform also includes ten generic product models covering both temporary communication (roll-ups, window wraps, etc.) and permanent installations (illuminated and non-illuminated signs, outdoor totems, etc.).

These models give users with a solid foundation for developing their own assessments and eco-design initiatives. They have also helped identify the key environmental challenges associated with visual communication products, enriching the shared knowledge base made available to the federation and its members.

Building autonomy in environmental assessment and eco-design

To help members become autonomous in using the platform, EVEA and FESPA France jointly developed a suite of learning resources available to all ASKOR users:

  • E-learning modules and a user guide to get started with ASKOR

  • A guide to analysing the environmental challenges of products and materials in the visual communication industry

  • A methodological guide explaining the basics of life cycle assessment

  • A standardised data-collection template

These resources are complemented by small-group onboarding sessions run live by an EVEA expert, allowing members to explore the ASKOR platform in real time.

One year on

A year after its launch, 50 companies had already created more than 2,000 product models on the platform; a strong start for FESPA France.

Hugues Malhère concludes: « ASKOR is a powerful tool for us. It guides our R&D projects in the eco-design of new signage solutions. The results can sometimes be surprising, challenging long-held assumptions among our members and suppliers. In one case, we managed to reduce the climate impact of an event signage product by a factor of forty. That’s huge! It's also a safeguard against greenwashing. When you rely on European benchmarks and ISO-certified calculation methods, the results speak for themselves. »
