Laurine Lanuit : Water and Fire

Laurine has set herself a life goal: to climb as many volcanoes as possible.

It all started on a school trip to Iceland, where she developed an explosive passion for volcanoes – to the point of considering a career as a volcanologist. She even took part in a sampling campaign in the Azores during her studies, but lab work wasn’t really her thing. What Laurine loves is being out in the field, immersed in nature.

Her academic path speaks volumes about her fascination with the Earth and its elements. After studying Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences at Paris Diderot and the Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris (IPGP), she pursued a master’s degree at ISEADD, the Institute for Sustainable Development Studies, while working on placement. It was during her time at Nature & Découvertes, working on carbon footprint assessments and climate strategy, that she realised she wanted to dedicate her career to tackling climate issues.

Carbon footprint, climate strategy… These are the areas Laurine continues to explore for EVEA’s clients as part of the R&D team. Her journey with EVEA began in the summer of 2022.

She recalls being approached on LinkedIn, followed by a phone conversation with Samuel Causse, then director of the Agro-resources and Green Chemistry division, who spoke to her about the unique “climate” at EVEA – a place that fosters initiative and exploration.

“What I love about EVEA,” says Laurine, “is that we don’t just stick to regulations. We always push further in our analyses to encourage our clients to genuinely reduce the impact of their activities. Beyond climate issues, for instance, we urge them to consider other environmental and social challenges to ensure a just and fair transition.”

When she’s not working on climate issues, Laurine recharges in the Bugey region near Lyon, where she’s restoring a house from the ground up – using low-carbon materials, of course. She also enjoys canoeing along rivers or diving into the depths of seas and oceans. Scuba diving is another passion she discovered ten years ago. During a six-month trip to Central America, she earned her Divemaster certification, the first professional level that allows divers to lead others underwater.

From water to land, it’s all about the slopes – and Laurine keeps climbing, relentlessly. Next on her list: Mount Etna in Sicily, where she’ll find both snow and lava waiting for her. Naturally, she plans to get there by hitchhiking.

That’s what drives her when travelling: hitchhiking, the people she meets along the way. After Etna, the next challenge will be Stromboli, the ever-active volcano of the Aeolian Islands, famously captured in the 1950 film Stromboli starring Ingrid Bergman. Another summit for Laurine the explorer.
