At EVEA, we’ve been eagerly awaiting this. The new ISO 14075 standard, which defines the principles and framework for social life cycle assessment (S-LCA), was published in October 2024.
This publication marks both a recognition of the importance of social issues and a major step forward in encouraging companies and organizations to better incorporate the social impacts of their products and services.
The number of this standard is no coincidence: by joining the 14000 series dedicated to environmental management, it highlights the fundamental link between the environmental and social aspects of products—a mission that EVEA has pursued for over 10 years by integrating social assessments alongside environmental assessments.
With this new standard, we can look forward to greater consideration of social aspects across the entire ISO 14000 series, as well as in other standard families, such as ISO 59014, which focuses on secondary materials.
This accomplishment is the result of an extensive methodological effort and an international consensus process, in which EVEA actively participated in collaboration with the AFNOR Group's standards committee.
Congratulations and thanks go to Ghada Bouillass, Paula Pérez-López, Alexandre Oliveira, Philippe Osset, and the entire committee for their determination and unwavering commitment. We also extend our thanks to all members of the ISO/TC 207/SC 5/WG 15 ISO Environmental Management group.
Thanks to a solid methodological foundation derived from the UNEP Guidelines—Life Cycle Initiative, S-LCA now has an internationally recognized normative foundation.■

Eco-socio-design: beyond eco-design
Reducing social footprints is just as essential as reducing environmental ones. Eco-designing a product is not enough; it must also be eco-socio-designed.
